The Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust recently utilised the services of RPA Dental for the installation of two Stern Weber S380TRC dental units. Overseeing the project was Caroline Heath, the Trust’s Oral, Maxillofacial and Orthodontics Department Manager. Here, she reflects on the process.
We have five surgeries in total at Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust for referral and emergency outpatient procedures, two of which we recently upgraded to the Stern Weber S380TRC chair. Quite simply the chairs had become extremely tired and needed replacing – that’s where RPA Dental came in.
We’ve been going to RPA Dental for several years now for servicing, so when the department got the all clear to purchase two brand new chairs I didn’t hesitate in contacting Pete Higson. Indeed, the level of customer care and advice has always been exceptionally high, and Pete knows exactly what type of equipment we need in order to meet our patients’ needs, so it was a no brainer getting the team in to complete this project.
During the planning stages Pete was very thorough, taking his time to review the space available and learn more about our needs as a department. Through this and our own feedback on the types of patients that we see – for instance, many are elderly, bariatric, have mobility problems or additional needs that can’t be met in a standard dental setting – Pete was able to source a chair that suited our specifications in their entirety.
Unfortunately, we encountered a few issues during installation, but thanks to RPA Dental’s outstanding professionalism, quick thinking and problem solving skills we were able to resolve the problem swiftly and efficiently.
Pete and his team worked closely with the Trust’s Estates Department (a team of skilled tradespeople responsible for repairs and regular maintenance of the entire site) to locate the appropriate waste pipes, wiring and water sources. This was a particularly huge undertaking but luckily Pete has a lot of experience in knowing how to set the ball in motion, so I was able to take a step back during the installation and leave Pete to it – just as well, as there were times when I had no idea what either party was talking about! There was also the matter of isolating the circuit boards of our surgeries without impacting surrounding wards, which is no easy feat.
Thus, if I could give one piece of advice it would be to liaise with the Estate’s Department in advance of installation so that when a team like RPA Dental come in everything is already in place and ready to go. Not only would this help prevent delays, but would make the whole process a lot easier! All in all, however, the process went very smoothly and we are extremely happy with the outcome; I would definitely recommend RPA Dental.
As for the chairs, we’ve all been extremely impressed with their performance. From an ergonomic and safety perspective, they’ve been invaluable to the team, as the synchronised backrest and leg rest movements have helped to minimise manual handling during the transfer of patients. This, in turn, has helped to create a much more functional and accessible environment for our patients as well as maximise the available space. Everyone loves the colour too – a rich blueberry violet, which finishes the surgeries off perfectly. Now I just need to secure funding for three more Stern Weber S380TRC chairs!
